what should my blog focus be?

on a diet. i hate dieting.

i've noticed that i'm noticeably fatter than i was a few months ago. it's most likely from the weeks after christmas of intense working out followed by the "that's good enough" stage, then my metabolism slows down to shit and i start gaining.

so my goal now is to lose 15 pounds in around 2 weeks. the diet i've tried and have been successful at in the past is of the no-carbohydrate variety, which doesn't have very much variety itself. probably one of the more boring diets as i am a huge fan of sugar and grains. my roommate bought 4 boxes of pop tarts yesterday and i am about to slam my head on the desk to keep myself from going down and picking up a nice pack of s'mores. i will most likely go down and pick up a pack to save for after the diet is over as a nice 10-second gobble fest. having one day a week for a break from dieting is good for the sanity and kind of shocks your body back to where it was for just a bit. i probably won't have any pop tarts on my day off.

this morning i had a couple strips of bacon with a few eggs and cheese. it's good, but i miss my empty calories. along with avoiding carbohydrates, i tend to cut down on calories by a lot. i may start walking if i don't lose fast enough.

in the past i did this for two and a half months and lost over 60 pounds. for 3 years i stayed around 175 even with regular eating, then slowly creeped up to 185 and now i'm hovering around 195 (which is too much). i'd like to be 180 by the end of the two weeks, but if you've ever had to diet, you know that it sucks. it's only the will of myself keeping me from breaking it, and i'm hoping that writing about it online will make it a little better.

in addition to losing weight, i'm also banning caffeine, nicotine and alcohol from my diet. around sunday i will either be sleeping all day due to lack of energy or be raging at the littlest things. i'll appreciate it all after the two weeks, but getting started is always the most difficult part (which, this is my second day).

my mom is also pushing for me to buy a foreclosure and fix it up to turn a profit since i'm really slow right now to find a career (though, do we all need careers?). i'm too sleepy to worry about it now. if anyone knows of good, cheap real estate in your area i might be interested. in two weeks.

The key is not diet. That's temporary. You make it part of a healthy life style :D

You have more balls than I friend. I've been eating pizza and Chinese for the past 6 months and I feel like shit. On top of that, I smoke, drink lots of coffee, and sit around all day. You know what? You've inspired me! I'm going to get off my ass and go get a gym membership! Just don't expect me to give up smoking. Nay, I believe that's impossible haha.

Wish I could help you bro, I've just always been one of those "eat anything I want" skinny people :(

Zakk said...

That's not a very healthy goal.

Dieting is easy if you make it easy, just search for a Base Matabolic Rate calculator and calculate ur BMR, then take that and subtract 500 calories from that. Eat that amount of calories daily and you'll lose 1lb a week. You could probably get away with eating -750 off of your BMR, but anything over 1000 is unhealthy and will result most likely in lost muscle rather than fat.

I hope this helps! Also, do some cardio and weight training this will help immensely!

I hope this helps! Please don't try to lose 12lbs in 2 weeks thats very unhealthy :<

Working out is my solution to everything, only problem is I tried it as a solution to no sleep. Yeah that backfired!

Wow, you're up to a serious task there. I should loose 20 pounds myself (10kg), and quit the smoking and caffeine, but it's sooo heavy....

I started a diet with a nutritionist almost 3 weeks ago. I've lost around 5kg in that time and im eating tons of balanced stuff, today i ate some spagetties with fried chicken for example.

I could not ban caffeine, nicotine, or alcohol. Everyone needs some elements of fun in their life.

Stuff that matters, stuff that don't said...

Better to just do regular cardio and eat the same and you'll burn off the excess.

I've been essentially unemployed for a couple months, and have piled on the fat, really due to having no motivation to get off the PC and do something. So maybe your mum's right.

jonwinters said...

yeah, i'm a very compulsive eater, so i have to be strict in my diet or else it doesn't work out.

i think the lack of caffeine will bother me the most. i don't drink too much, so i'm not missing the feeling of alcohol (thc though...)

after two weeks i'll see where that leaves me. i don't care if i quit smoking cigs or not, i kind of like just going outside to have one or having one on the road. i smoke maybe a pack every two weeks as it is.

pol said...

i'm 160 atm, give or take a pound or two.i wanna get back to around 170 (muscle, not fat).

anyway, good luck with your diet mate

I really want to lose weight too, I hope that your lifestyle change goes well! :D

how old is your photo? You look quite skinny but good. Why do u need to go on diet?
Heard that smoking lets only little meat to hitch with skeleton. Old wives tale?

Unknown said...

I have the opposite problem, i can't gain weight.

Personally, I don't think diets ever work. You either try to eat healthy until the day you die, or you eat crappy food and get fat. Most people that end up going on diets in an attempt to lose weight end up gaining it back plus some later on.

Pretty much in the same situation as you.

Good luck. 50 pushups and 50 crunches a day doesn't hurt. About 30 minutes of work out. if you can do this easily then do 75 each. and work your way to the top. It worked out good for me.

Just don't overdo it. Resting is necessary for the muscles to rebuild after a workout.

I wish you sucess, I'm also "dieting" though it's slowly becoming part of my lifestyles...I'm eating more healthy and less unhealthy....not actually dieting since I still eat all sorts of food but I'm slowly switching from bad to good until finally I've changed all my eating habits....or at least I hope that, POSITIVE THINKING

Man I need to go on a diet too. Although I have read that caffeine is good for burning calories, if you drink your coffee black with no sugar. Luckily I love it that way.

by not drinking soda you will save yourself so much trouble

Con Queso said...

I agree with Nitefalls, Make a gradual life style change. Going on these healthy binges will probably come back to haunt you after you're done.

Anonymous said...

15 pounds in 2 weeks is very unhealthy. The reason you are so tired is because you are drastically reducing your carbohydrates. Also I would assume it would just burn you out to drop so many habits at once like that, I would suggest just dropping one (such as no soda) for a while, adopt it, let it become natural than move on from there. Anyways, very proud that you are attempting the first step. Stick to it and the results you want will come.
